Treating Acne Scars Holistically

How to Treat Acne Holistically

Holistic acne treatments are not only effective at improving your skin’s appearance, but can improve your overall health as well. It’s always important to have a naturopathic analysis of your specific acne case to determine what underlying issues are causing your skin to flare up. Many acne cases can be improved with diet and lifestyle changes.

That said, there are some very advanced holistic treatments we employ to improve the appearance of acne.

3 Holistic Methods to Treat Acne:

  1. LED blue light therapy: kills the P. acnes bacteria without irritating post-treatment skin.

  2. BHA Salicylic acid peels

  3. IPL laser treatment

Please note that these methods work best when combined with an at-home skincare program.

Microneedling to Treat Acne Scars

Unfortunately, many people find that long after their systems have recovered from the stress of acne, they are left with unsightly acne scars. The best way we’ve found to heal these scars is through microneedling. Microneedling triggers the body’s natural healing process and production of new collagen and elastin – the important proteins that keep the skin firm, smooth, and even.

Results from Microneedling for Acne Scars:

Most patients see a noticeable reduction in acne scars after a few treatments.Deep scars or pockmarks are lessened and skin has a more even tone and texture in as few as three treatments. The new skin that’s created will be firmer, brighter, and smoother.

Specifically, radiofrequency micro-needling, has been shown to be helpful in reducing enlarged pore size. It produces about 80% improvement in the appearance of atrophic acne scars on facial skin after multiple treatment sessions of microneedling. That being said, the improvement after one session shown in this study, was between 8.9% and 13.8%.The recommended treatment cycle is one treatment every four to six weeks. Three to four treatments are recommended to see optimal results. For some patients, results tend to fade over time, and you may require follow-up microneedling treatments in the future, so we recommend yearly follow-up treatments after that.
