BLUE LIGHT ACNE TREATMENT

$140/SESSION

Acne can range in severity from the occasional breakout to the ongoing eruption of painful, swollen nodules or cysts—and as any sufferer of severe acne knows, it can be debilitating. Whether caused by genetics, hormone imbalances, excess oil production or other factors, the best way to fight stubborn acne is to attack it at the source. An acne lesion forms when bacteria (called P. acnes) and sebum mix with dead skin cells, resulting in a “plug” in the hair follicle and inflammation. Accordingly, the most effective acne treatments target bacteria and the painful swelling it causes.

HOW IT WORKS:

Visible blue light of wavelengths of 430 nanometers has been shown by multiple research studies to kill acne causing bacteria (P. acnes) on the skin. Blue light therapy has an immediate calming effect on inflamed pimples and helps prevent further breakouts. Blue light can also reduce skin oiliness, an underlying cause of acne. At Lumèr - Timeless Health Clinic, we follow each blue light treatment with red light. The addition of red light treats deeper layers of the skin and reduces inflammation caused by acne. Red light can travel further into the skin than blue light, addressing acne scarring, pigmentation, redness, and fine lines. A combination of blue and red light therapies has been proven effective at treating acne without the side effects of oral medications.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Blue and red light therapy are all natural, completely painless, needle-less, treatments with no downtime. There is no skin redness, peeling, or discomfort following treatment. Patients can immediately return to normal activities following treatment. Most patients find this treatment very relaxing.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT RESULTS?

The duration of treatment depends on the severity of acne. Typically patients receive treatments twice weekly for 5 weeks. After 5 weeks of treatment, patients experience up to a 75% reduction in acne. Follow-up treatments may be necessary to maintain the effect.
