Vitamin B12 Injections

What it is: B12 or cobalamin is a water soluble vitamin responsible for many vital functions. When injected, vitamin B12 is easily absorbed by the body and then utilized in the formation of red blood cells. It also aids in the maintenance of a healthy nervous and cardiovascular system. The major health benefits of vitamin B12 injections are an increase in energy, enhanced weight loss, and a feeling of alertness.

Weight Loss:  B12 helps the body convert carbohydrates into glucose, which is burned in order to produce energy. It also plys a cruicial role in the breakdown of fats and proteins. By improving overall energy levels and helping the body adapt to stress, many patients find B12 injections to be helpfull in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.

Stress: B12 is considered an anti-stress vitamin since it is believed to enhance the healthy functioning of the immune system and improves the body's ability to adapt to stressful conditions. It improves energy levels by allowing the body to burn calories and supporting thyroid functions.

Fatigue: Fatigue can be present for many reasons. These include lack of sleep, inadequate nutrition and lack of stable blood sugar levels, infections, use of stimulants that cause the body to “crash” a few hours later, and long-term stress. In the absence of diagnosed anemia, many people find that B12 gives them an energy boost, both short- and long-term. Athletes have reported increased endurance as well.

Depression: Research shows that those who suffer from depression respond better to drug treatment if they have high levels of vitamin B12 in their blood. One theory states vitamin B12 helps play a role in the manufacture of brain neurotransmitters, a shortage of which is believed to be linked to depression.

Heart Disease: Homocysteine is an amino acid and breakdown product of protein metabolism that, when present in high concentrations, has been linked to an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Elevated homocysteine levels are thought to contribute to plaque formation by damaging arterial walls. High levels of Homocysteine have also been predictive of increased incidences of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. B vitamins, including B12 and folic acid can help lower elevated homocysteine levels.
